Literature Text

Twilight Sparkle was not a morning pony. Ever since she'd been just a filly, she had been a night owl, begging her parents to let her stay up a little longer so she could read or stargaze. Now, as an adult, she could set her own sleeping schedule, and even after she'd moved to Ponyville and become a part of the community, it was rare for her to go to bed before two or three in the morning. As a result, she tended to sleep in more often than not, requiring copious amounts of tea to get going if she had to wake up early.

This morning was not any different. Blinking blearily at the morning sunshine pouring in through her window. Twilight craned her neck to check the alarm clock on her desk. "Five thirty?" she groaned. Why was she awake at this hour...? She yawned and stretched herself, almost feeling the sluggish gears starting to turn in her head. There had to be a reason why she'd left the curtains open last night, knowing that the rising sun would wake her up...

Her eyes widened as she remembered what day it was. The Shire Fair in Hoofington was today, and she had promised the Mayor to run Ponyville's official stand with her friends! Tossing the blanket aside, Twilight jumped out of the bed and onto her hooves. A faint purple glow flickered around her horn, and her bedroom door flew open, letting the frantic-looking unicorn out.

Spike, woken up by the thud and clatter of Twilight's hooves, opened one eye and looked up at Twilight from his basket-bed. "Wh'ttime'sit?" the sleepy baby dragon asked.

"Oh! Hi, Spike," Twilight said. Spike had been up late last night, helping Twilight pack, check and re-check her things, and would be staying behind today to take care of the library. "It's only five thirty, you can go back to sleep." She gave him an apologetic smile and trotted towards the stairs.

The first thing Twilight did when she got into the kitchen downstairs was to light the stove and put a kettle on. Priorities were priorities, after all. While she waited for the water to boil, she opened the pantry cupboard and the ice box, and began to make the rest of her breakfast. By the time she was pouring her first cup of tea, Twilight had it all set up: whole-wheat toast with apple butter and dandelion jam, grape-and-ginger granola bar, and a bowl of wildflower yoghurt.

The purple mare took a long sip of her tea, her mouth having long ago gotten used to the heat. She sighed with satisfaction and let the cup float back to the saucer. A checklist and a quill floated up in its stead. "Wake up; check! Make tea; check! Eat breakfast; check!" Smiling, Twilight put the list away and took a bite of her toast. This was going to be a good day, she just knew it!
"Twilight woke up. Twilight got out of bed, and then she walked to the door. She said hi to Spike. She went downstairs. She made breakfast."

This story snippet was written for #MLP-WTG's second remix week, where the subject was "Showing vs. telling" and the task was to take the quoted sentences, above, and turn them into a lively description showing things instead of just telling about them.

Your fanfics are honestly the only ones I feel comfortable reading.
